Turkey and Cow Tongues

Tonight, I am exhausted. We had an extremely busy, but successful, weekend. Friday night, Duncan had their first playoff game in 15 some-odd years. Saturday we had our first Strategy Team Retreat. I was so impressed by how teachable our leaders were in learning the purposes behind doing ministry. They were also just dead honest when evaluating the health of the ministry and the students. Saturday was the first day so far that I have been confident in our move.

Sunday we had our church wide Thanksgiving Lunch served by the youth. I was blown away by their servant hearts and by the church's response. Our students were so excited and willing to smile while cleaning plates, refilling drinks, and cut hundreds of pieces of pie. Way more people came to lunch than we had planned for and in one of the best displays of service, I watched students gladly give up their seats for others to sit down. Ah, maybe they do get it.
Sunday afternoon was the time I had been dreading: Duncan's Annual Ultimate Cow Tongue Football Tournament. There's nothing like a bunch of gangly teens running around a muddy field in competitive heat slinging a three-foot-long tongue at each other. I had been dreading it because I am the least competitive slash non-athletic person you will ever meet. So, I had to fake it with my wannabe cheerleader skills. And guess what, we made it, AND it was so much fun! We even finished the tournament 2-2. Go FUMC!

And so now, I am tired and would like nothing more than to sit here, sunken into my oversized couch, and watch mindless entertainment, I Love New York 2. Don't hate, it's my guilty pleasure.
