NYMC Reflections (Post 2 of 4)

Throughout the course of the weekend, there was a combination of workshops and deeper learning tracks available. Originally I had preenrolled for one called Thriving As a Youth Pastor's Spouse: How to balance marriage, family, and yourself amidst ministry led by the sprite and incomperable Cathy Fields. Between that and Kara Powell's Balancing Ministry, Marriage, Motherhood, and More class, I picked up more than a few take-home nuggets. Here are some highlights:
  • Saying "no" to something in ministry is not the same as saying "no" to God. I need to remember that everytime I say "yes" to something, I'm saying "no" to something else.
  • The Sabbath - although it seems like it should be the easiest commandment to follow, it is often the most violated one by Christians. Sabbath is not an option and in fact is both a day and an attitude.
  • Superficial Relationships - For me, I realized that one of the reasons why I don't have regular accountability is because I'm too busy for anything superficial. I want depth, not fluff. Ask me the difficult questions!
  • If God is the great I AM, that means I am the great I AM NOT! Balance will only be possible when we realize that God is God, and I AM NOT!
