Month Five

I've made it to the conclusion that Duncan, Oklahoma is a very odd town. It's like we're in some sort of "Pleasantville" where the typical Oklahoma weather skips right around us, all women are housewives, and the town reeks of lilies and chocolate. Sounds charming, right? It's not. Sometimes I miss not being able to drive because of the icy roads, onslaught of torrential rain, or hurricane winds. I miss having conversations with women my own age and I'm tired of pretending that I have even a clue about what it's like to have kids or, gag, grandchildren. Sometimes I even miss the smell of the crap-factory in Norman or the Alpo plant in Edmond.
However, I cannot discount the incredible things the Lord has taught me in the past month. Wopsle and I are more in love than ever, and, like you even want to hear it, we really enjoy the immense quality time we are blessed to spend together.

Over the last month and a half I've been doing Beth Moore's Psalms of Ascent Bible study. I love that lady - big hair, Texas accent and all! Not only is she full of passion for God, but she is wildly intelligent and I have learned so much!
I also finished reading "Help! I'm a woman in Youth Ministry" by Kara Powell. I referenced her in one of the National Youth Ministry Conference (NYMC) posts and I just can't help finding myself researching more of her work and learning more. I've never really had any "heroes" in ministry (as Wopsle would say), but the more I learn about these women and their passion for serving God, I'm starting to crush on these girl heroes.

Heading into month five, I feel incredible optimistic about the opportunities the Lord is setting in motion before us. Laughter is one thing that I'm definitely not in short supply of. The other day Wopsle and I went to the middle school for lunch. We checked in at the main office, and filled out our visitor name tags. It wasn't until we left that I had made a mistake in filling mine out...Name: Amy, Visiting? YES!

Love,
Wally and Beav
